Alcohol-based hand disinfectants and skin antiseptics contamination

چکیده
Sir, the recent article by Steinhauer et al. [1] is very interesting. Steinhauer et al. reported that “primary packaging material and use were not found to pose a significant contamination risk as far as bacterial spores are concerned” [1]. In fact, the contamination of hand disinfectants and skin antiseptics can be expected. In tropical world where the climate is proper for the growth of pathogen, the problemmight bemore serious. The poorer quality control process in manufacturing steps is also a very important problem. In a report from Taiwan, the contamination of alcohol used in hospital due to bacterial contamination from the manufacturer could be seen [2]. Additionally, when one focuses interest on disinfectants and antiseptics, one might forget to consider on water, pipeline and tap contamination.

Hygienic safety of alcohol-based hand disinfectants and skin antiseptics
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate the overall risk of hand disinfectants and skin antiseptics to become contaminated with bacterial spores throughout the production process and the subsequent in-use period, hence posing a public health risk. METHODS Microbiological assessment of primary packaging material was carried out and long-term survival of bacterial spores in alcohol was as...

Background: One of the major causes of increasing nosocomial infections is misusing disinfectants and antiseptics in hospitals. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of disinfectants and antiseptics using in injections and dressing wards, operation rooms and kitchen of Hamedan hospitals. Materials and Methods: In this study 742 samples were collected before and after disinfect...

Nowadays, the prevalence of nosocomial infections are considered as a serious problem in health systems.Use of appropriate antiseptics and disinfectants play major role in the control of nosocomial infections. In this study, we examined microbial contamination of hospital antiseptics and disinfectants and the effectof dilution on their rate of contamination to gain insight into their rational us...
متن کاملRole of hospital surfaces in the transmission of emerging health care-associated pathogens: norovirus, Clostridium difficile, and Acinetobacter species.
Health care-associated infections (HAI) remain a major cause of patient morbidity and mortality. Although the main source of nosocomial pathogens is likely the patient's endogenous flora, an estimated 20% to 40% of HAI have been attributed to cross infection via the hands of health care personnel, who have become contaminated from direct contact with the patient or indirectly by touching contam...

Background and Aim: Preparing the skin for surgery with antiseptics is a standard measure to reduce surgical site infection. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of skin preparation at the surgical site with povidone-iodine 7.5% and povidone-iodine 10% antiseptics with chlorhexidine and povidone-iodine 10% on the microbial count. Methods: This clinical trial study was performed on 80 patient...
